First take 40 gm of Barium Hydroxide & dissolve it up to 1000 ml Distilled water & keep it for over night.
Take two sample of mercerized & unmerserized fabric which is soaped at 90⁰C, washed with cold water & dry.
Take three Barium No. bottles & add 30 ml of supernated solution of Barium Hydroxide.
Weight approximately 2.0 gm accurately of unmercerize & mercerize fabric & deep it in two different bottles.
Run the blank with the experiment & shake the bottle for 24 hrs.
Now titrate 10 ml of each solution against 0.1 N HCl from burette.
Methyl Red is used as an indicator.
End point is pink to colorless.
Calculation = Blank (BR) - Mercerize (BR) x 100
