Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) Testing

About 1.5g of sample is accurately weighed and made up to 250ml in a standard flask. To 10ml of this solution, 50ml distilled water and 30ml of 20% sulfuric acid added. The mixture is then titrated against 0.1N KMnO4. The end point is pale pink color.

Calculation:-

%H2O2= Vol. of KMnO4 x N x 17
Wt of sample in 10ml x10

Where N= Normality of KMnO4

Checking peroxide gpl and ml/liter:-

Pipette 5ml of solution. Transfer to a conical flask. Add 100ml of distilled water and 10ml of 50%Sulphuric acid. Titrated against 0.1NKMnO4 solution. End Point will be colorless to light pink. Note Down burette reading.

Peroxide ml/lit=B.R. x N of KMnO4 x5.78
                           Amount of solution taken

(* 5.78= %age of H2O2 x Mol.wt)

Peroxide Gpl= B.R.X N of KMnO4 X 17
                          Amount of solution taken

Checking Peroxide on Fabric:-
Weigh about 2-3gm of fabric. Transfer the fabric to a conical flask  to it adds 100ml of cold water till dip and 10ml of 30%Sulphuric acid. Titrated against 0.1 KMnO4. End point will be colorless to light pink. Note Down burette
Reading.

B.R.x 0.017= Result
Result x 100  = Result1
 Fabric wt
Result1/1.183(sp.gravity)=ml/kg

  1. In peroxide testing on fabric please make it clear that wt. Of samle is taken. That is dry weight or wet weight. Which weight of sample is used in calulation.
