What is absorbency and how to check.

AATCC ( American Associations of Textile Chemist & Colorist)

1. Absorbancy
PURPOSE - to check absorbency of Textile fabric.

ECUPMENTS - Embroidery Hoop, Burette, Stopwatch.

METHOD NO. - AATCC 79

PROCIDURE

  • Absorbency  is one of the several factors which determine the suitability of a fabric for subsequent use. It is very much important in continuous process sinse the completeness and uniformity of dyeing are dependent upon the absorbancy. It is also important in various finish also.
  • Principal behind this is that, a drop of water is alow to fall from a fixed hight onto the water drop to dissappear is measure and record as wetting time.
  • Maunt the test specimen in the embroidery hoop so the surface is free of wrinkles but without distorting the structure of specimen.
  • Place the hoop one centimeters below the tip of burrete and allow one drop of distilled water to fall on cloth.
  • Using a stopwatch, measure the time required for the surface of the liquid to lose its specular reflection.

RESULT- GIVE ABSORBANCY RESULT OF THE FABRIC IN SECOND.
